What is Paediatric Ultrasound?

Pediatric Ultrasound is a safe and widely used real-time imaging technique that can be performed on infants and children. It uses high-frequency sound waves which are produced by a special ultrasound probe called a transducer. The frequency of these sound waves is higher than can be detected by the human ear. The sound waves bounce off parts of the body and are detected by probes and then used to create images that can be displayed on a monitor.

Because ultrasounds are captured in real-time they appear as moving images which enhances the diagnostic capability of the test. Ultrasound has no known harmful effects and can e used as a diagnostic tool for a variety of conditions in infants and children.
